Italy
Italy, with its stunning countryside, world-class cuisine and art masterpieces, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. Travelers flock to Italy for the culture, the history and the fascinating people.
When packing for a trip for Italy, you should consider your comfort level among well-dressed people. Consider that any trip to Italy will likely include a good amount of moving around as you tour historical monuments, so pack clothing that is easy to wear and will not wrinkle easily.
If you are having trouble deciding what to pack, err on the side of packing light. Travel in Italy often includes rides on trains, which have very narrow aisles, and you will be more comfortable if you can easily carry your own luggage. When in doubt, pack about half of what you think you'll need.
Many historic churches demand modest attire before they will let you in. Modest attire means shirts that reach to the elbows and skirts below the knee for women. Men should pack long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. These restrictions are enforced even in the heat of the summer.
If you are staying in a large city, such as Milan or Rome, a car can be difficult to park and expensive. Use the extensive local network of buses and trains to get around much more quickly instead. If you are staying in smaller Italian towns and villages, bus service may be limited, and you may need to rent a car to see all the places on your list.
Italy is rich in art, architecture, history and culture. Give yourself enough time to see what you want to see.
