Sir Edmund Hillary

Sir Edmund HillaryJohn walked down the waiting lineup talking to 20 at a time, "Thank you for coming."

"Sir Edmund Hillary was made a Knight for climbing Mount Everest, and knighted a second time, made a Knight of the Garter, for his charitable works. He is here today to raise money to build hospitals and schools in Nepal.

As you can see from the people here today, Sir Edmund's time with each person is limited, just a few seconds to introduce you, get his autograph, and say thank-you. Please don't ask him to personalize your book. Please don't ask him to autograph anything else. Please don't ask to shake hands.

Remember, he is 81 and as soon as he looks tired the event is over."

These photos show him and Lady Hillary chatting with the crowd as they leave, tuckered out.
