Eric and Roxine in Egypt
"We were teaching in Kuwait and took the opportunity to visit Egypt.

In Cairo we toured the pyramids at Giza and stayed at Shephard's Hotel.  The travel agent apologized for the hotel but I knew from my reading that it had been operating for well over 100 years, in one incarnation or another, and we were delighted to stay there.

We flew to Luxor, toured the valley of the Tombs of the Kings, then cruised upriver.  There are about 300 cruise line boats on the Nile, most three story floating hotels.  Ours was from the President line; comfortable, clean, well appointed and the food excellent.

The Tilley hats that I took to the middle east turned out to be among the most important things I had on my travels.  Imagine temperatures above 50C and a high desert sun.

I have owned seven or eight Tilley hats, mostly T3's.  I teach sailing and the T3 is the best on-the-water hat, bar none.  I have lost 2, worn out 2 and would not sail in anything else."
