We had a wonderful elephant ride, the mahout with his feet tucked behind the ears of this mammoth creature, coaxing him on.
This is a very clean photo... we even rode them into the reservoir, where they had a bath, with us still on their backs!
The Balinese men are preparing a feast... a cooperative effort that takes all day. In this photo you can see their traditional dress, mixed with a bit of 'western' gear.
The rice paddies are stunning in their beauty, layer on layer of lush hillside fields capturing the precious water to produce the primary and life-sustaining crop. The work, as is virtually everything in Bali, is backbreaking hard labour. These are not fields for tractors.
But in spite of the daily pressure to work with no leisure, the smiles of the Balinese are engaging, beautiful and welcoming."
